For those cases when you're working in a Corporate environment using locked down machines and non local admin accounts, http://portableapps.com/ is dead useful. Being able to use Chrome over IE6(!)/7/8 is worth it alone but installer free versions of great tools like Notepad++ and 7Zip are invaluable.
More a testament to the fact that the app creators have made them work using local config files and no dependency on registry settings or protected file areas than PortableApps.com's genius but still, a useful list of links.
